ABOUT THIS / ABOUT ME

OnTheSpot.info evolved from being a domain name for a cell phone based school project to being Laura Garcia-Barrio’s portfolio website.

Originally from Barcelona, in Spain, and originally a journalist with experience in traditional media, I shifted to the Internet right at the beginning of the dot com boom. During the next few years, I worked in two pioneer projects for the Spanish speaking community worldwide: ICTnet, a virtual community for professionals, and Ocenet, an online resource center for subscribers.

In 2002 I was awarded with a fellowship from the Spanish savings bank La Caixa, to pursue graduate studies in the US, and I moved to New York City a year afterwards.

In May 2005 I finished my Masters degree at the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU, where I focused on information visualization, the design of digital products, cellphone applications and video documentary making. My interests also include social software, participatory media and social activism.
