Born on September 25, 1901 Robert Bresson was a French film director who passed away at the age of 98 on December 18, 1999. He was known for his ascetic, aesthetic and spiritual style. After Jean Renoir, he is highly regarded as a French filmmaker. He has made notable contributions in the film industry and is also known as a ‘patron saint’ of cinema. The ‘French New Wave’ directors were highly influenced by his theories about film. He also wrote a book ‘Notes on the Cinematographer’ in the year 1975 on film criticism and theory. This is one of the highly respectable books.
He is known for his work on Pickpocket, Mouchette, Le diable probablement, Au hazard Balthazar, Lancelot du Lac which are a few of his films. He has directed a short film called ‘Les affaires publiques’ also known as Public Affairs in the year 1934. He has received various nominations and awards for his work in films.
