    Satyajit Ray

     

    Born on May 2, 1921, Satyajit Ray was an Indian filmmaker who came to be regarded as a filmmaker who could also be known as the author of his film. He was born into a family that was involved in arts and culture but he got involved into filmmaking after meeting with the famous French filmmaker Jean Renoir. He saw the film ‘Bicycle Thieves’ on his trip to London, which also played a major role in his career.

    He is a film director, producer, screenwriter, writer, music director and lyricist who has produced a total of 36 films in his 70 years of life. He was married to Bijoya Das from 1950 until the day he passed away. He died on April 23, 1992. He was also a famous fiction writer, illustrator, publisher, graphic designer, calligrapher and film critic. His first film was ‘Pather Panchali’ that received eleven international awards and also the Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival.
