    John Ford – The Irish American Film Director

    20th Century Irish-American film director John Ford was born on 1st February 1894 and dies at the age of 79 years on 31st August 1973. He achieved a rare fleet of four Academy Awards in the years 1935, 1940, 1941 and 1952. He directed 140 films or more in a career spanning 50 years who’s regarded as one of the most influential and important filmmakers of his time. His creations included silent movies as well which are mostly lost. His film How Green Was My Valley was adjudged as the Best Picture.

    John Ford is credited with pioneering the concept of location shooting which grew manifold during his lifetime and stewardship. John’s career in film direction began when he moved to California in the mid of the year 1914. By 1920 he got married to then divorcee McBride Smith with whom he had two children. Despite of the couple’s different religious beliefs and some strains due to extramarital affairs of John their marriage lasted for life.
