  • Facts of life

    Luis Buñuel

The winner of Best Director Awards at many prominent film festivals, Luis Bunuel was best known as the father of satirical films that poked fun at religion and its related issues. Brought up in a strict Catholic family, Bunuel always detested his religion. This is quite evident in most of his movies that are satires and bring out the sarcasm with elegance without over doing it.

He was a Marxist who vehemently opposed the growing middle class that lived a life worth nothing.

Most of his films fall in the category of being called unusual and shocking. While, some may find his films too provoking, there are others who simply love his body of work. Not many know that he was a very close friend of Salvador Dali, yet hated his wife!!

A man of many whims, Luis Bunuel will be best remembered for films like Land Without Bread and Belle De Jour.
