    Shirley knight was born on July 5, 1936 in goesell, MarionCounty. She is the daughter of Virginia and noel Johnson knight. She is also known as Shirley knight Hopkins. She is an actress by profession.She was married to gene person from 1959 to 1969. They had one child. From 1969, she was married to john Hopkins until his death in 1998. They had one child.Her daughters are Sophie Hopkins and Kaitlin Hopkins. She has received two academy award nominations for the best supporting actress. These nominations were for the films, the dark at the top of the stairs and sweet bird of youth.   She was also nominated for eight Emmy awards and she won two of them.Among the films she featured in are; as good as it gets, the rain people, the Dutchman, the group and elevator.
