    John Gielgud – The Classic English Theatre Personality

    Sir Arthur John Gielgud in short John Gielgud was born on 14th April 1904 in South Kensington, England who was known for his acting, singing and direction. He passed away at the age of 96 years and left a legacy behind him in the British cultural world especially by way of his outstanding work on theatre front alongside film producing and directing. He debuted in radio in the year 1929 following his brother Val Gielgud as the head of the BBC Radio Production.

    It is the theatrical performance that has earned him a special place in the cultural world and the journey in this began way back in 1936 through performances in Hamlet. He performed in Hamlet as Broadway performer in America and hoped to stay back there. But ultimately he had to return to London in the following year. John Gielgud is credited with the person behind setting the precedent of forming a group of actors for playing classics in the arena of theatre which is deemed as the though behind formation of such groups in theatre like Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre.
