    Peggy Ashcroft was an English actress who is famous for an enticing career that is reported to have spanned almost 48 years. Born on December 20, 1907 as Edith Margaret Emily Ashcroft in Croydon, Surrey she is still remembered as one the most prolific actresses of her time. Her first true break was as Naemi in Jew Suss, in 1929. Two years later, she played Desdemona in Paul Robeson’s Othello. She achieved stardom and recognition in 1934, when she appeared on stage as Juliet in the play titled Romeo and Juliet. After this, there was no looking back as she kept being on the peak position in the theatrical world of London. She appeared in a few movies like the thirty-nine steps, or the nun’s story, and these roles have been made memorable thanks to her charisma and personality. She was honored by the British government with the title of the commander of order of British Empire. She was 83 at the time of her death due to stroke on 14 June 1991.
