  • Facts of life

Jim Henson – The Famous Puppeteer

Jim Henson in life span of 66 years left an indelible mark on American cultural sphere and was born on 24th September 1936. He’s credited with many parts such as screenwriter, puppeteer, director and producer alongside inventor and imaginer. He’s better known as the creator of The Muppets and performed for many television shows in the capacity of a renowned puppeteer.

Henson tasted success first in Sam and Friends that ran for six years and it was before the creation of The Muppets. Somewhere in 1954 he got into the creation of puppets for WTOP-TV while he was attending Northwestern High School and eventually revolutionized the puppet making as he felt that puppets needed more life and agility in the performances. With this thought in mind he began to experiment with the materials used for puppet making such as foam rubber for higher flexibility in depicting expressions and emotions. Henson’s creations were as vivid and colorful as his thoughts were for making them different.
