    John Cassavetes – The Pioneer of American Independent Film

    John Nicholas Cassavetes in short John Cassavetes was born in the year 1929, precisely on 9th December and he’s credited with three in one attributes of a director, screenwriter and an actor. He will be mostly remembered as the pioneer of American Independent film through writing, producing and directing a dozen of films. The uniqueness of all such films was in the use of improvised cinema verite (a style of documentary filmmaking that was originally invented by Jean Rouch).

    John was born in New York even though he spent his early years of life in Greece with his family and returned to New York at the age of seven when he was unable to speak in English. Later underwent through schooling at Port Washington High School during 1945 to 1947 and finally graduated in 1950 from American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Post this he pursued acting seriously with television, theatres and films.
